Christmas hyacinths (or not…)

What with the blanket of snow and ice that’s been covering everything in the garden for the past couple of weeks, I’ve had to look indoors for signs that things are still growing. Way back in September when the sun was still shining, I planted three hyacinth bulbs in pots for forcing, so that I would have flowers at Christmas. Lacking a suitable cold dark spot to start them off in, they have been living in a closed cardboard box on the floor, and, not surprisingly, did not get enough of a shove to get them growing in time for Christmas. Next year I’ll have to try putting them in the fridge. They’re not doing too badly though, now that they’re out of the box and sitting on the windowsill. Here’s hoping for flowers to brighten up the New Year!
